1907  The Panic of 1907 began when depositors began withdrawing their money from NYC banks – Westinghouse Electric went into receivership and several banks failed – loans by JP Morgan and the Treasury checked the panic

1928  Herbert Hoover spoke of the “American system of rugged individualism”
