1913  The Panama Canal was completed
1925  James Duke died, founder of American Tobacco Co., his daughter Doris Duke inherited $125 million
1933  The first synthetic detergent for home use was marketed – was called DREFT
1946  Actor/dancer Ben Vereen was born – “Roots”
