1907 The Panic of 1907 began when depositors began withdrawing their money from NYC banks – Westinghouse Electric went into receivership and several banks failed – loans by JP Morgan and the Treasury checked the panic

1928 Herbert Hoover spoke of the “American system of rugged individualism”
1936 The first commercial flight from the mainland to Hawaii occurred
1938 The first Xerox copy was made – used powdered ink and an electrical charge
